ELLISVILLE —
Jones County Junior College dropped a hard-fought, 1-0 decision to the Holmes Community College Bulldogs here on a hot Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Field.
The contest was scoreless until the 82nd minute when the Bulldogs got a goal from Blake Haas off an assist by J.M. Webster.
Holmes improved to 2-2 with the victory, while Jones fell to 2-3.
The Bobcats open South Division play at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Holmes begins North Division play at Itawamba on Friday.
JCJC women win:
At Raymond on Tuesday evening, the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats rallied for a clutch 2-1 overtime victory at Tom Shepherd Field.
Hinds led 1-0 in the first half, but JCJC came back and rallied to get the victory over the Hinds Community College Lady Eagles.
Hinds scored in the first half to take a 1-0 lead, but JCJC controlled the second half and forced overtime with a goal by Liversedge, England freshman Danica Roberts.
Roberts also scored the game-winner early in the extra session. West Jones’ sophomore Bridget Dennis and Long Beach freshman Trahrissa Monroe were credited with assists.
The Lady Bobcats are now 3-0-1 on the season.
JCJC opens South Division play with a 5:30 p.m. game Saturday at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
In a recent match at Hinds Community College in Raymond, the Hinds Community College Eagles blanked the JCJC 3-0 in men’s soccer at Tom Shepherd Field.
