Jones Co. native to sign copies of her book at Baptist Bible and Book House

The author of Taiwan Connections: Fond Memories, Faye Pearson, who was reared in Jones County and educated in the Jones County schools, will have a book signing Saturday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baptist Bible and Book House.

She was appointed as a Southern Baptist missionary to Taiwan in 1968 and lived and served in that part of the world for the next 40 years. She served as a campus minister, taught at the Taiwan Baptist Theological Seminary, served as a counselor for missionaries in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Faye later became the area director for Southern Baptist work in East Asia supervising the ministry of over 450 missionaries serving in eight countries. She also taught for five years at the Nanjing Theological Seminary in Nanjing, China.

Taiwan Connections: Fond Memories is the story of 15 couples—ordinary men and women from the cities and rural towns of America. These couples met, fell in love, married, and started families—they, too wanted the American Dream. Then they experienced the call of an extraordinary God and followed Him to a far-away, undeveloped country filled with breath-taking beauty, exotic smells, strange sights and a charming, inspiring people—Taiwan, Republic of China.

The experiences chronicled in Taiwan Connections: Fond Memories occurred during war and peace, victory and defeat, disappointment and excitement, as these couples sought to live out their obedient response to God's purpose in a cross-cultural setting. These are stories of fear and calmness, of loss and gain, of failure and success, of hurt and blessings, of faith and doubt, fears and laughter, and watching their children grow up, retiring and returning to a strange land called America to enjoy their grandchildren.

Taiwan Connections: Fond Memories is suitable for family and friends, book clubs and church groups.

Recently, I had an irritation and wanted to go around it, but that is not how the story goes. I had a huge ulcer in my cheek; I was miserable and asked a doctor to help my pain. Instead of giving me a cure, He told me that I would be fine in a couple of weeks. That was not what I wanted to hear; I was in pain and a couple of weeks sounded like an eternity!

My sister, Janie, is having surgery soon. Mom is going out to Colorado to help her through the recuperation. Dad and I can help by sending Mom who is a pro at caring for her girls. Mom will be sure Janie has everything she needs and will help her do what she cannot do for herself. Janie is not looking forward to the pain of surgery, but she is looking forward to feeling better.

  • Traylor, Tracy.jpg Shining Glory

Across from my breakfast table is a window which overlooks a big oak tree. Since we get up early, it is still dark outside. I know there is a tree out there, but only a dim outline can be seen. Little by little, I begin to see the shape of a tree. When the sun is fully shining on it, that tree is beautiful with an orange glow. However, it does not come into view the minute I sit down. It takes time for the tree to appear, but after I finally see its full beauty, it is well worth the wait.

  • Jerry Marcellino rgb.jpg How does the Bible describe Hell?

The devil is very sly in how he aims to redirect men, women, and children away from the need of the hour. One of his most common deceptions is to strive to convince both the unbeliever (irreligious and religious) and the true believer (Luke 22:31-32; Ephesians 6:13-17) that things are just not exactly how the Bible depicts them. He whispers that the Bible is archaic, full of errors, the source of legend and myth . . . and if you are not persuaded, he will aim to convince you that God is a hard Master (Matthew 25:24), or even worse, an unreasonable party-pooper (1 Peter 1:16).
