Tickets now on sale for A Night Out For ‘The Girls’

LAUREL — Preparations are underway and tickets are now available for the 2nd Annual A Night Out For ‘The Girls’ breast cancer fundraiser, Thursday, Sept. 30 at the home of Bill and Missy Sanderson.

Funds raised will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day, 60 Mile “Walk for a Cure.” This year three local women will be walking to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Kim Hobbs, Judy McCraw and Dr. Stacy Smithers will participate in the October event in Atlanta, Ga.

This year’s event will feature wine and cheese and appetizers prepared by Chef Kay Campanella, a fashion show presented by Misty’s, The House of Style, jewelry by Elizabeth Berry Designs, door prizes and a silent auction.

Many of the models in the fashion show are breast cancer survivors and women battling the disease.

Auction items include a wide assortment of artwork and pottery by local artists; autographed jerseys by several New Orleans Saint’s football players, including Drew Brees and Jeremy Shockey; signed copies of the Sports Illustrated issue featuring a photo of Brees and his son after the Saint’s big win; also items signed by Peyton and Eli Manning, Brett Favre, and former and current Pittsburgh Steelers players, and much more.

Keynote speaker for this year’s event is Shannon Penland, MD, with Medical Oncology-Hematology and Internal Medicine at Jefferson Medical.

A poignant part of the evening includes the rose ceremony, led by a Susan G. Komen Foundation represenative,  where each breast cancer survivor and those diagnosed with breast cancer are presented with a pink rose.

A shuttle service will be provided from the North Laurel Shopping Center to the Sanderson home located at 3508 Old Bay Springs Road, Laurel.

Roses and arrangements are provided by Flowertyme and tickets are designed by Artworks.

The public is encouraged to attend and tickets are limited. To purchase tickets or for more information contact Judy McCraw at 601-310-1180 or email her at peddler@peoplepc.com; Jayne Cooper at 601-649-7334 or email jrcooper5@bellsouth.net; Kim’s Toyota, Misty’s, The House of Style or Bella Bella.

Just as each of us has a need for physical safety, we also have a need for emotional or psychological safety. Boundaries is the term we use to define what helps us feel safe and comfortable in relationships. We have all had the experience of feeling like another person was closer to us physically than was comfortable. So too it is important to define for yourself how close you want to be with others emotionally. Naturally, this varies with who the other person is.
