Reader disagrees with assessment of Tebow

LAUREL — To the editor:

This is in regards to an article (paid advertisement) from David Sheppard titled “A Call to Holiness” that was in your paper on 1-12-12.

Let me say I have known David for quite some time and it’s hard for me to believe he would write something like this. I’m going to list the points of disagreement I have with David:

1. He stated Tim Tebow is violating the Sabbath Day and the Lord’s Day - Which is it? They are two different days.

2. I, unlike David, believe with all my heart that Tim is a fine Christian young man.

3. Tim has been honoring God all of his life. Just think of all the people that he has influenced for Jesus.

4. I think it’s great to see a young man that is not ashamed to be a witness for young people with his faith. He uses his money and speaking talents to honor others.

5. Are you saying God is not honoring Tim Tebow? How in the world do you know this? He never passes up an opportunity to thank “Jesus His Savior.”

6. Are you saying that God does not honor people who must work on Sunday because their job requires them to? What about you? If I’m not wrong your “job” requires you to work on Sunday.

7. I am a deacon and adult Sunday School teacher. I’m also a blood bought Christian part of the “church” and at one time was required to work on Sunday. Brother, I can tell you God never ceased honoring me.

8. He also has not ceased honoring millions of Christians who are required to work Sundays.

9. I could go on forever but will stop.

David, I totally believe you are wrong about Tim Tebow. It’s Jesus plus nothing. Read John 14:6. There are no exceptions.

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and legislative Republicans are taking heat this week for trying to give the charter school concept an honest try in Mississippi. But a look at the status quo in Mississippi public education suggests that the concept is an alternative worth fully empowering.

“Rick Santorum was a sitting senator who, in re-election, lost by 19 points,” Donald Trump, a Mitt Romney supporter, said recently. “Then he goes out and says, ‘Oh, OK, I just lost by the biggest margin in history, now I’m going to run for president.’ Tell me, how does that work?”

  • mcdaniel mug.jpg Obama needs reminding of our religous freedom

Last week, I wrote about a new federal mandate that violates the religious liberties of Christian schools, hospitals, and charities by forcing them to offer contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs to those they are providing insurance. The mainstream press also covered the story and made it one of national significance.
But remarkably, what is not being reported is the Obama administration's other efforts to manipulate the internal operations of churches and religious institutions.

  • No quick fixes to boost Miss. economy

Stick around the Mississippi Capitol for a while, listen to a few briefings about finances, education levels and health statistics, and see if you can maintain a sunny, optimistic outlook about the state's economic future.
    It's not easy.
