Alonzo White Sr.

Alonzo “Big Al” White Sr., 59, of Canton, Ohio, formerly of Laurel, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Aultman Hospital in Canton following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Providence Baptist Church in Laurel with burial in Nora Davis Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Cooley will officiate.

He was born in Laurel on July 5, 1949, to the late Lonnie J. and Ora Marsh White. He was a 1971 graduate of Oak Park High School in Laurel. He retired from the Hoover Company after over 33 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leonard White.

Survivors include two sisters, Claudine Jones of Jacksonville, Fla., and Earnestine Washington of Montgomery, Ala.; five brothers, Larry White Sr. of Atlanta, Ga., Eugene (Valerie) White Sr. of Laurel, Dexter White Sr. of San Diego, Calif., Eric (Renee) White of Baton Rouge, La., and Eddie White Jr. of Pueblo, Colo.; two devoted nieces, Lona Jean Ross of Montgomery, Ala., and Angela V. Mack of Jacksonville, Fla.; uncle, Sonnie Marsh of Coatopa, Ala.; two special friends, Charles “Chopper” Poulson and Johnnie “Buster” Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Providence Baptist Church.
