LAUREL —
South Jones opened Region 5-4A slow pitch softball action on Tuesday with a 6-2 victory over homestanding Northeast Jones.
South (6-5, 1-0) had 15 hits, including three each by Callen Gibson and Michala Dye. Abbey Pitts, Carlie Benoit and K.K. Phillips all had two hits. McKenzie Shows tripled. Lauren Shows and Megan Grayson singled.
For NEJ (2-7, 0-1), Callie Smith had two singles. Lacy Guthrie, Ryce Williams, Marisa Rushton, Marissa Manning and Adrian Shoemake all had one single.
Benoit was the winning pitcher; Rushton the loser.
SJ visits region foe NE Lauderdale Thursday in a starting at 5 p.m. NEJ hosts Quitman in a region game Thursday starting at 6 p.m.
At Taylorsville, THS moved to 12-1, winning 12-0 in 3 1/2 over Bay Springs in a Region 7-2A game.
Kim Ducksworth was the winner. She was backed by 12 hits. Ducksworth, Cocoa Bender, Lexus Griffith, Kaityln Hegewood and Shannon Jones all singled. Alex Blakeney and Kelsey Rogers had two hits. Cassidy Leblanc and Makayla Jernigan both tripled. Kemi May homered.
WJ visits Taylorsville on Thursday starting at 6 p.m.
At Raleigh, the Lady Lions moved to 7-2 overall with a 1-0 win over visiting Morton Tuesday.

Meagan Jones, Samantha Meadows, Katelyn Martin, Gilreath and Rashanna Jordan all singled. Jessica Scott and Hannah Hammons added two singles and Kassie Tally tripled.
Raleigh is back in action on Thursday hosting Forest in a 5 p.m. twinbill.

STATE CHAMPIONS
The Laurel Knight Hawks captured the Mississippi Christian Home Educators (MCHE) state basketball championship Monday in Jackson. In the final game of the double elimination tournament, the Knight Hawks defeated the two year reigning state champions, Jackson Victors, with a final score of 67-64.
