JCJC soccer squads prove too much for Northwest

ELLISVILLE — It was a successful way for the Jones County Junior College soccer teams to open the home portion of the 2010 season here on a hot Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Field.

The Lady Bobcats crushed Northwest Mississippi Community College, 9-0, while the JCJC men’s team blanked the Rangers, 3-0.

The JCJC women are now 2-0 and will host the nation’s No. 6-rated team, Polk State College (Fla.), at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Polk State is 1-0 and will play at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday.

The Bobcat men are now 1-1 and travel to Meridian Community College at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Lady Bobcats romp

It was over rather quickly in the women’s game as the Lady Bobcats scored four goals in the game’s first 13 minutes and cruised from there.

George County sophomore Dana Ivey scored at the 5-minute mark to give Jones a 1-0 lead. Liversedge, England, sophomore Danica Roberts followed with a goal at the eight-minute mark to make it 2-0. Madison Central freshman Macey Endris scored in the 11th minute to make it 3-0 and Madison Central sophomore Aubrey Weems followed with a goal in the 13th minute to give Jones a 4-0 lead.

They made it 5-0 in the 32nd minute on another Endris goal and took a 6-0 lead at intermission when another Madison Central product, Chelsea Wooten, scored in the 37th minute.

In the second half, Ivey scored in the 61st minute, Endris got the ‘hat trick’ with her third goal in the 69th minute and West Jones’ sophomore Bridget Dennis closed the scoring in the 75th minute.

Dennis and Endris were both credited with two assists, while George County sophomore Arlette Cochran also had an assist.

Mobile, Ala., product Michelle Brumfield, a freshman from Theodore High School, was in goal for the Lady Bobcats.

Bobcats 3, Rangers 0

JCJC got on the board quickly, as Northwest Rankin freshman Jake Benton scored in the opening minute. The Bobcats went up 2-0 in the 17th minute when Gautier sophomore Nick Peden scored off an assist by Weston, Fla., freshman Giuliano Mancini. They got their final goal in the 34th minute when Weston, Fla., freshman Manuel Ferrer scored off an assist by Clarkdale’s Mason Tabb.

Long Beach freshman B.K. Hammons was in goal for the Bobcats.
