It was a Saturday full of baseball at the Northeast Jones Classic.
South Jones beat Seminary 7-2 in the opening game. The Braves beat Taylorsville 5-0 in the second game, and in the third contest of the afternoon, the Braves beat Taylorsville 5-0. Also, Laurel beat Taylorsville 7-6.
Braves 7, Bulldogs 2
Jon Glaze and Blake Strickland led the way for South Jones with two singles. Clint Therrell and Benji Sullivan hit singles. Sullivan also earned a double.
Ben Cooley was the winning pitcher for South Jones, while Zach Ducksworth took the loss for Seminary.
Braves 5, Tartars 0
Sullivan paced the way for South Jones in the second game of the day.
Sullivan hit a homer and a single. Kelby Knight added a home run to increase the Braves’ lead. Aaron Brady and Avery Owens hit a double and a single. Strickland and Ryan Geddie had singles.
Blake Strickland earned the win for South Jones. Josh Pankratz took the loss for Taylorsville.
Golden Tornadoes 7, Tartars 6
The Laurel Golden Tornadoes are on a three-game winning streak after beating Taylorsville 7-6 in a nail-biter.
For Laurel, Markel Milsap and Tevin McInnis hit two singles apiece. Mac Carmichael hit a double and a single. Eli Morris doubled. Deion Ulmer and Dontreal Pruitt hit singles.
For the Tartars Zach Walker led the way with two singles. Fernando Hamilton, Dominique Sullivan, and Josh Pankratz hit singles.
Deion Ulmer was the winning pitcher for the Golden Tornadoes while Mason Walley took the loss.
Northeast Jones beat Bassfield 14-3 in the late game from Friday night’s action.

STATE CHAMPIONS
The Laurel Knight Hawks captured the Mississippi Christian Home Educators (MCHE) state basketball championship Monday in Jackson. In the final game of the double elimination tournament, the Knight Hawks defeated the two year reigning state champions, Jackson Victors, with a final score of 67-64.
