LAUREL —
Despite three victories in as many games and the No. 1 ranking in the state in Class 2A, Taylorsville head football coach Bud Blackledge said the Tartars remain in search of an identity.
Collins fared about as well as most Taylorsville opponents. Taylorsville led 7-0 through the first three quarters. The Tartars scored 15 points in the final quarter.
“Defensively, I thought we played well,” said THS head coach Bud Blackledge. “Offensively, we made some mistakes that are correctable. Collins is an athletic football team. We’ll take every win we get an enjoy it.
“We’re 3-0, but we’ve got to get better each week,” Blackledge said. “You can’t complain about being 3-0. We have to get better at the little things.”
Taylorsville’s Fernando Hamilton scored twice on receptions of 18 and 4 yards. Running back Steven Payton scored on a 4-yard reception of a pass thrown by quarterback Terian Page.
“We’ve played three quality opponents and found a way to win,” Blackledge said. “It’s early in the year and we’re still trying to find our identity. The one thing the defense does well is run to the football.”
Taylorsville hosts 3-0 Raleigh next Friday.
