Raleigh tops W. Jones; Wayne beats S. Jones

LAUREL — Raleigh’s Lady Lions defeated visiting West Jones  5-3 on Tuesday in prep slow pitch action.

Raleigh improved to 6-2. Alex Gilreath was the winning pitcher. She fanned two. With nine total hits.

For Raleigh, Megan  Jones singled and doubled, while Mekayla Westbrook and Kassidy Tally both singled twice.  Hannah Hammons, Jessica Scott each singled. Dana Arender added  a triple.

Ali Williams pitched for West Jones. The Lady Mustangs had eight hits, including two hits each by Carlee Sumrall, Carlee Ferris and Williams. Akedbid Pruitt and Jakeld Johnson singled.

Raleigh is tentatively set to play at Stringer on Saturday. An announcement on that game will be  later in the week.

South Jones falls

At Waynesboro, South Jones fell 4-2 to Wayne County on Tuesday. South Jones fell 4-5. Against WC, the Lady Braves had  nine hits and three errors.

Losing pitcher for South Jones was Mikayln Ezell.

Offensively, Ezell went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI. K.K. Phillips was 2-for-3. Meagan Grayson singled twice.

South Jones hosts North Forest Thursday at 6 p.m.

HA wins 11-1

In fast pitch action at Purvis, Heidelberg Academy ended its district season on a winning note, winning 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday against Lamar in District 8-A play.

Heidelberg is 13-3 overall and 6-1 in district play.

Winner Lauren Brashier had four  strikeouts.

Kirstin Prunera and Amanda Dixon both went 2-for-3.  Emily Tuminello had one hit. Prunera, Dixon and Tuminello all scored twice. Rebecca Fries, Shannon Hollway, Ashley Reeves and Brashier all scored.

The Lady Rebels play at Wayne Academy on Sept. 7 for a 6 p.m. game.

Also Tuesday, Sylva-Bay defeated Wayne Academy 5-1.
