Lady Bobcats receive votes in latest poll

JCJC tips off division play tonight hosting PRCC

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats received votes in this week’s NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Sandra Sumrall’s team is 6-1 on the season, following a 70-59 victory over East Mississippi on Monday night. The only other Mississippi team in the rankings is Co-Lin. The Lady Wolves are 7-0 and are ranked No. 7 in the nation.

Gulf Coast Community College (Fla.), located in Panama City, is rated No. 1 at 6-0, while Salt Lake Community College (Utah) is second at 9-1.

In the men’s poll, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is rated No. 24 with a 9-1 record, while Northwest Mississippi received votes with a 7-1 mark.

Midland College (Texas) is No. 1 in the men’s poll at 9-0. To view both men and women’s polls, go to www.njcaa.org.

The Bobcat teams will open South Division play tonight, at home vs. Pearl River Community College. The women’s game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.

The PRCC women are 5-5. The JCJC men are 4-3, while the Pearl River men are 6-2.

The games will mark the debut of the updated, JCJC-TV website and game telecasts for the 2009-10 season.

Producer/webmaster Jared Meyers has revamped the www.jcjc.tv website to make it more attractive for viewers. Lance Pittman will call the play-by-play, while Mark Easley will provide commentary.

Air time will be at 5:55 p.m.
