Wayne County High School swept Northeast Jones on the hardwood here Tuesday night in the “Jungle”. In the girls game, the Lady War Eagles won 40-28 while the War Eagles soared by the Tigers 64-36.

Lady War Eagle head coach Gina Skelton was pleased with her team’s effort.
“We came out kind of sluggish,” she said. “The girls pulled it together, and it was a night our younger girls got some playing experience.”
With less than a minute to play in the opening quarter of play, Ricdashia Wilson hit a easy jumper in the lane to send the Lady War Eagles on a 14-4 run.
Tierra Frost hit a trey from the baseline to send the Lady War Eagles (4-0) on a 9-0 run in the second quarter. Amber Graham made a easy lay-up with 35.6 seconds left in the half to send Wayne County on a 16-0 run. Wayne County went into halftime with a 30-4 lead.
The Lady War Eagles never looked back in the game.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers (0-4) outscored the Lady War Eagles 9-5, and they outscored them in the fourth quarter 15-5.
Lady Tiger head coach Nedra Hosey was proud her team never gave up.
“They played with a lot of heart and effort on the court tonight,” Hosey said.
Brianna Lancaster led the winners with 6 points. Wilson finished with 5. For the Lady Tigers, Nesy Reed finished with 13 points, while Andrea Strickland finished with 8.
War Eagles 64, Tigers 36
War Eagle head coach Ron Norman was pleased with his teams’ defensive game on the night.
“I was really pleased with the way our team played defense tonight,” he said. “We had over 20 turnovers out there tonight, so I’m really pleased with the effort our guys showed.”
Mark Slater sent the War Eagles (3-1) on a 11-0 run two minutes into the game with a trey from the side. The War Eagles went on to take a 21-6 advantage to close out the first quarter of play.
In the second quarter, the War Eagles outscored the Tigers 17-14 to take a 38-20 halftime lead.
With 5:56 left in the third quarter, Detric Davis hit a trey of his own to send the War Eagles on a 8-0 run. The War Eagles outscored the Tigers 14-11 in the third quarter to take a 54-31 lead into the final quarter of play. Wayne County finished off the game with a 10-5 scoring run to make your final 64-36.
Tiger head coach P.T. Jones feels his team improves each time they step on the court.
“The team is getting better each week,” said Jones.
Donta Pittman finished with 16 points for Wayne County, while Anthony Wilson scored 11.
Shadaryl Slater netted 17 points for NE Jones (0-4), while Damario Pruitt finished with 10.

The Laurel Knight Hawks captured the Mississippi Christian Home Educators (MCHE) state basketball championship Monday in Jackson. In the final game of the double elimination tournament, the Knight Hawks defeated the two year reigning state champions, Jackson Victors, with a final score of 67-64.
