ELLISVILLE — The Taylorsville Tartars got their first win in two games and the South Jones Braves lost their first game of the season here Friday night as Taylorsville dominated 42-6.
The Tartars scored on the first possession of the game and would score three more touchdowns before the Braves scored their only touchdown of the game.
Taylorsville started at its own 23-yardline. Quarterback Dominique Sullivan ran 32 yards on second and two to the South Jones 45. On third and 6, Sullivan threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Fernando Hamilton. An extra point attempt by Micheal Ross failed, and Taylorsville led 6-0 with 9:02 left in the first quarter.
The Tartars scored again near the end of the first quarter as Sullivan ran on third and 2 for the touchdown. The extra point was good and Taylorsville led 13-0.
Taylorsville scored with 10:54 left in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Sullivan. The extra point gave the Tartars a 20-0 lead.
South Jones recovered a Taylorsville fumble close to the half but quarterback Bryant Baucum fumbled as he was sacked, and the Tartars recovered. On first and goal from the 9, Sullivan threw a touchdown pass to Martez Nixon with 2:51 left in the second quarter. The extra point gave 27-0 lead.
Braves quarterback Baucum completed a pass to Paul Clark to set up the only South Jones touchdown. Clark took an 11-yard pass from Baucum for the touchdown. The extra point failed, and Taylorsville led 27-6.
Taylorsville added to its lead with 9:36 left in the third quarter as Sullivan ran 68 yards for a touchdown. The extra point gave Taylorsville a 36-6 lead.
Taylorsville’s last score came with 2:30 left in the game on a 3-yard run by quarterback Terrian Ross. The extra point was good, giving Taylorsville its 42-6 win.
South Jones hosts Perry Central Friday night and Taylorsville hosts Collins.
