HATTIESBURG - There were not a lot of details available about the game, but the Laurel Tornadoes defeated Hattiesburg 9-2 in local prep baseball action Friday night.
With the victory, the Tornadoes improved to 5-6 on the season.
William Bender was the winning pitcher for the Tornadoes.
Laurel returns to action Saturday at 6 hosting Petal.
South Jones was leading West Lauderdale
ELLISVILLE - South Jones hosted the West Lauderdale Knights Friday in Ellisville.
At press time, the South Jones Braves were leading the visiting Knights 6-1
South Jones’ Jon Glaze got the Braves on the board first when he came home on a passed ball to give the Braves an early 1-0 lead.
West Lauderdale tied the game in the top of the second inning.
Brett Daugherty bunted to bring home Caleb Melton for a run and tie the ball at 1-1 all.
In the bottom of the third inning, Ryan Geddie singled to left field to score Ben Cooley to break the tie.
Kelby Knight singled to knock in Jon Glaze.
Clint Therrell followed to bring in Will Cox to give the Braves a 4-1 advantage at that point.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Blake Strickland’s hot line drive down the first base side knocked in Benji Sullivan and Glaze to give the Braves a 6-1 lead at that point in the game.

The Laurel Knight Hawks captured the Mississippi Christian Home Educators (MCHE) state basketball championship Monday in Jackson. In the final game of the double elimination tournament, the Knight Hawks defeated the two year reigning state champions, Jackson Victors, with a final score of 67-64.
