LHS cheerleaders to hold ‘Kiddie Clinic’ Sept. 13
The Laurel High School cheerleaders will host “Kiddie Clinic” on Sept. 13, beginning at 8 a.m., with a performance for family and friends beginning at noon. The one-day camp is open to those ages three through the eighth grade. The cost, which includes individualized instruction, keepsake photo and popsicle, is $15 per participant. JCJC to hold fall baseball league camp
First-year Jones County Junior College head baseball coach Christian Ostrander has announced the school will hold a fall league baseball camp for youngsters in grades 9-12 from Oct. 27-Nov. 13.
Cost is $125 per player with each team consisting of no more than 12 players to guarantee plenty of playing time. The number of players in the league will be limited to the first 96 who register.
Each team will play twice a week for three weeks. Prior to the start of the games, there will be a two-day camp where players will get first-hand instruction from the JCJC coaching staff as well as Bobcat players. If interested, go to the JCJC website at www.jcjc.edu, click on baseball, print out the Fall League registration sheet and mail it in to the JCJC coaching staff. Co-ed and Men’s Fall Softball Leagues
Co-ed and Men’s fall softball leagues will begin Tuesday, the 23rd of September at the Sports Plex. The registration fees will be determined based on the number of teams participating. To enter a team, contact Jaime Johnson at 601-319-6171.
Bobcat 5K Run/Walk set for Sept. 6
The second annual Jones County Junior College Alumni Association Bobcat 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run will take place on Sept. 6 at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m., immediately followed by the Fun Run.
The event will take place rain or shine. The run will go through the JCJC campus and t-shirts will be given to all participants. Trophies will be awarded and all children will receive ribbons in the Fun Run. Entry fees are $12 pre-registration for the 5K Run/Walk and $15 on the day of the race. Fun Run entry fee is $10 on the day of the race. Pre-registration deadline is Sept. 1.

Rec basketball to start in Laurel
Laurel Park and Recreation League will start Nov. 10. Children 7 - 8 year old boys and girls; 9 - 10 year old boys and girls, 11 and 12 boys and girls, and 13-15 boys and girls will form teams. Lady Braves in title game
The South Jones Lady Braves will meet their old nemesis Wayne County here Friday night at 6 p.m. in the finals of the Region 5-5A basketball tournament. South Jones downed county rival West Jones while Wayne County came away with an impressive win over Stone County here Tuesday night.

The Laurel Knight Hawks captured the Mississippi Christian Home Educators (MCHE) state basketball championship Monday in Jackson. In the final game of the double elimination tournament, the Knight Hawks defeated the two year reigning state champions, Jackson Victors, with a final score of 67-64.
