Heidelberg Aca. wins second against Stringer

HEIDELBERG — Heidelberg Academy’s Rebels continued to tear through the regular season shutting out Lamar Christian 15-0 Friday night and public school opponent Stringer High 10-0 Saturday afternoon. The wins put the Rebels at 16-3 on the season.

Blake Denham got his seventh win on the mound to stay perfect in starts this season, while Lamar’s Adam Butler got the loss. Denham through a one-hitter and struck out four of 10 batters he faced in the three inning game.

Derek Beech and Andrew Jones each hit singles and homeruns for the Heidelberg Academy team. Steven Peebles hit a single and a triple. Blake Hitt contributed a single and two doubles, while Denham hit a pair of singles. Colby Reeves, Jamie Keenan, Joseph Collins and Colby Smith logged singles.

The Rebels avenged their earlier loss to the Red Devils by returning the favor, and then some, shutting out the public school foe behind the arm of Derek Beach(3-2).

Hunter Blakeney got the loss for the Red Devils, while Weston Stringer led the offense with one double. Andrew Pierce,

Derek Bonham and Darius Beavers all singled for Stringer.

Hitters for Heidelberg were led by Jamie Keenan with two round-trippers and a single. Joseph Collins nearly hit the cycle with a single, double and a homerun. Blake Denham also went yard and hit a single.

Colby Smith and Andrew Jones each hit a pair of singles, while Blake Hitt, Steven Peebles and Colby Reeves all hit a single a piece.

The Rebels’ next contest will be at Leake Academy Monday.
