Bobcats go 2-2 in the Disney World Classic
ELLISVILLE - On Monday and Tuesday Jones County Junior College split four games 2-2 in the Disney World Classic in Orlando, Fla. and are 12-10 on the season. JCJC swept Mott, Mich., C.C. on Monday 14-4 and 11-7. The Bobcats dropped a pair on Tuesday to Heartland, Ill., C.C. 19-12 and 8-2. JCJC will host Hinds on Tuesday, March 18th at 4 p.m.
Carey’s Ladner named softball GCAC player of the week
Hattiesburg — William Carey Senior Brittany Ladner has been named Gulf Coast Athletic Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 3-9.
Lander, a former Harrison Central High standout, picked up three of Carey's five wins on the week. Ladner allowed on seven hits and one unearned run while striking out six in thirteen innings pitched. Ladner's three wins helped her to improve to 7-1 on the season with a 1.05 ERA.
Lady Choctaws drop doubleheader to UT-Tyler
CLINTON — The Mississippi College softball team dropped a doubleheader to nationally-ranked UT Tyler on Thursday night. The Lady Choctaws (5-5, 0-2 ASC) dropped the first game by a score of 8-4, before falling the Patriots (18-0, 2-0 ASC) 14-0 in the second game.
In the first game, the Lady Choctaws grabbed a 4-1 lead after three innings on the strength of a two-run home run by freshman Lauren Coleman. The Patriots scored five in the fifth and held MC from crossing the plate for the rest of the game to take the 8-4 victory.
Coleman, freshman Courtney Hill, and freshman Jennifer Jones collected two hits apiece in the defeat. Sara DeStefano and Amanda Busby each drove in three runs for the Patriots.
Senior Katie Perry picked up the loss for the Lady Choctaws, going 7.0 innings and giving up eight earned runs. Kelsey Harrington collected the win for the Patriots with 5.0 innings of work, giving up eight hits and four earned runs.
The Patriots offense came alive in the fourth inning of the second game, scoring 14 runs on seven hits. The Lady Choctaws could not push a run across in the shutout loss.
Hill picked up two hits in the loss for the Lady Choctaws. Brittanni Hanna went 3-4 with four RBI to lead the Patriots.
Perry (5-5) picked up the loss for the Lady Choctaws, giving up 10 earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. Kelsey Ainsworth went the distance for the Patriots, giving up four hits in 5.0 innings.
The Lady Choctaws will travel to Millsaps this weekend to play in the Millsaps College Tournament on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Lady Crusaders pound Judson College 15-0 and 12-2
Marion Ala. — William Carey improved to 16-1 on the season as they pounded Judson College (AL) 15-0 (5) and 12-2 (6).
The Carey offense was virtually unstoppable scoring 27 runs and pounding out 33 hits including 9 doubles.
In game one Carey was led by Pam Martin who went 2 for 3 with two doubles and Shana Gunter who went 3 for 3.
Reigning GCAC Pitcher of the Week Brittany Ladner picked up her eighth win of the season allowing no runs and only one hit while recording three strikeouts.
Carey was led in game two by Jeana Erickson who went 5 for 5 with a double. Katie McCrary picked up her fourth win of the season.

The South Jones Lady Braves will meet their old nemesis Wayne County here Friday night at 6 p.m. in the finals of the Region 5-5A basketball tournament. South Jones downed county rival West Jones while Wayne County came away with an impressive win over Stone County here Tuesday night.
