Laurel looks to stop WC winning streak

The Laurel Golden Tornadoes, in keeping with their big game trend this season will take on what most would say is their toughest opponent of the season. The team will travel to take on Region 5-4A leaders the Wayne County War Eagles Friday night.

Clarksdale (2-1) and Moss Point (3-1) stand between Laurel and Wayne County and with a win this week the Golden Tornadoes could shake things up quite a bit in the region.

According to Laurel head coach Milton Smith his team will be sticking to style of play that has brought down opponents like Hattiesburg and West Jones, and has them nearly halfway through the season without a loss, though Smith readily acknowledges the magnitude of the task at hand. “It’s going to be tough,” Smith said. “It’s our second district game. They’re a tough team. They’ve always been tough.”

“We’re just keeping with our game plan,” said Smith. “We’ve got to move better on offense than we did the other night against West Jones. We have to be crisper, and move to the ball better on offense. And on defense we can’t miss tackles.”

“Wayne County has some great players. We’re definitely going to have our hands full,” Smith added. “They’ve got a great quarterback, and some great wide outs.”
