WESSON – Jones County Junior College posted a 354 in the opening round of the Co-Lin Community College Invitational here Monday at Wolf Hollow Golf Club.
Mississippi Gulf Coast tops the team standings at 290, followed by Northeast Mississippi and East Mississippi both at 299. East Central is fourth at 306. JCJC is in 10th place.
Individually, West Jones freshman J.T. Soley shot an 84 for Jones, while Oak Grove freshman Bing Waldron was at 85 and Long Beach freshman Andrew McMahan shot an 86. Mize sophomore Chase Powell had an 87 and Clarkdale sophomore Clarke Boatner shot an 89.
Gulf Coast’s Richie Williams shot a 3-under par 69 to hold a three-stroke advantage over Brandon Robbins of Northeast, Drew Hartzog of Hinds and East Mississippi’s Ian McAdams and Michael Lauseng, all of whom shot an even-par 72.
The tournament concludes today with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Brookhaven Country Club.

STATE CHAMPIONS
The Laurel Knight Hawks captured the Mississippi Christian Home Educators (MCHE) state basketball championship Monday in Jackson. In the final game of the double elimination tournament, the Knight Hawks defeated the two year reigning state champions, Jackson Victors, with a final score of 67-64.
