RALEIGH —
Taylorsville’s Slow Pitch softball team won two games over the past weekend in the Smith County Tournament.
In Saturday’s tournament, Taylorsville defeated both Raleigh and Mize by identical 6-5 scores.
Against Raleigh, Kim Ducksworth was the starting pitcher for Taylorsville and had a strikeout. Camryn Griffith was used in relief for the Lady Tartars.
The Tartars had eight total hits against Raleigh. Coco Bender, Kaitlyn Hegewood, Kelsey Rogers all singled. Lexus Griffith singled twice and tripled. Kemi May tripled and Cassidy Leblanc doubled.
Raleigh’s Alexa Gilreath was the losing pitcher.
In the second game, Taylorsville had a total of six hits against Mize. Rogers doubled and singled in the win. Bender, May, Hegewood and Ducksworth all singled.
The Tartars went into extra innings against Mize. The game was 5-5 in the seventh. Rogers’ double was the game-winner.
Taylorsville (9-1) travels to Enterprise-Clarke tonight at 7 for a district battle. Enterprise is undefeated .
Ducksworth and Griffith shared pitching duties against Mize. Griffith had one strikeout.

STATE CHAMPIONS
The Laurel Knight Hawks captured the Mississippi Christian Home Educators (MCHE) state basketball championship Monday in Jackson. In the final game of the double elimination tournament, the Knight Hawks defeated the two year reigning state champions, Jackson Victors, with a final score of 67-64.
