LAUREL —
The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is still waiting to receive autopsy results in the death of a 2-year-old Jones County girl who died Aug. 12.
Victoria Viner died at the University Medical Center in Jackson where she was transported Aug. 10 after sheriff’s deputies responded to South Central Regional Medical Center after Viner had become unresponsive.
“We have heard nothing at all from the autopsy,” said Sheriff Alex Hodge. “Investigators are still waiting on the results.”
Hodge understands there are a lot of concerned citizens who are anxious to find out what happened to the child. He said the investigation is ongoing and as soon as the sheriff’s department has something to report, it will do so.
In the meantime, Hodge said: “We are still in prayer for the family of this child. It’s always a sad thing to lose a child.”
In an earlier interview, Hodge said family members have been questioned, including the child’s mother and the mother’s boyfriend.
