LAUREL —
Two Laurel men have been arrested by the Laurel Police Department and charged for auto burglary.
Anthony McGill, 20, of Houston Road; and Douglas Haynes, 23, of Lee Street were arrested on Saturday and charged with one count each of auto burglary.
Detective Ted Ducksworth with the Laurel Police Department said the arrests were made in the Hoy Community with the assistance of Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Evans.
Ducksworth said a report of a burglary was called into the Laurel Police Department around 8 a.m. on Saturday.
“Laurel Police Officer Bobby Moree responded to the scene of the incident, which was the Shell Station located at 205 South 16th Ave.,” Ducksworth said. “Two black males had been observed entering the victim’s vehicle and removing items from it while she was inside paying for her gas.”
Ducksworth said Moree was able to get a description of the two suspects and the vehicle they were traveling in from the store’s surveillance cameras.
It was a short time later, Ducksworth said, that Sheriff Deputy Evans located the suspects and detained them for LPD.
McGill and Haynes are currently being held in the Jones County Jail. They are awaiting their initial court appearances in Laurel Municipal Court, where their bond is expected to be set.
Ducksworth said if found guilty, McGill and Haynes face a maximum of seven years in the custody of the Mississippi Department Of Corrections.
