HEIDELBERG — A Jasper County family is without a home following a Thursday night fire.

Heidelberg Fire Chief Prentiss Henley said the fire occurred around 8 p.m. Thursday on Highway 528 west of Heidelberg in Jasper County.

According to reports, Henley said, the homeowner is Shawanda Pierce.

“The homeowner and another person were at home at the time of the fire,” Henley said. “Everyone was able to escape the burning house.”

The fire chief said no cause in the fire had been determined.

“We have not made any determination concerning a cause,” he explained. “However, based on what those present said, the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen.”

Henley said no one was reportedly injured in connection with the blaze.

However, the wood-frame one-story house was totally destroyed in the fire.
