The Jasper County Justice Court case against Bay Springs resident Richard Stockman has been postponed until January.
Jasper County Justice Court Judge Marvin Jones said Friday that a continuance was offered this week to Stockman’s attorney Joseph Sims because Sim’s wife is soon expecting a baby.
Stockman was cited in October for operating a puppy mill near Bay Springs, where more than 40 dogs of various breeds were seized. Many of the dogs were in malnourished conditions, with some even having broken bones and other infections.
Dr. Wayne Adams, a Meridian-based veterinarian, treated the most critically injured. Charles Chaplin, executive director/president of the Waynesboro-based Tailwaggers for Life, provided transportation for the dogs to the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society in Oxford, Miss.
Jones added Stockman will face misdemeanor charges of animal neglect for the dogs that were seized.
“We are having someone go out there and check what animals are left on a weekly basis until the case comes up,” Jones said. “It will probably be the first Wednesday of January (Jan. 6) before the case comes back up now.”
