The Laurel Police Department is continuing to work two drug cases that resulted in at least four people being taken into custody.
LPD Narcotics Agent Stephen Bullock reported that two people were taken into custody following the execution of a search warrant at a residence located at 744 East 16th Street.
According to officials, Eric J. Keys, 25, and Derrell A. Keys, 28, both of Laurel, were arrested at the residence after several weeks of investigation by Laurel narcotic agents.
Bullock said officers executed the search warrant of the residence and both suspects were at home.
Bullock said public information assisted officers with this case.
During the search of the residence, Bullock said, officers found marijuana, some cash money and two guns — a handgun and a rifle.
Officials said because of the items seized in the incident, Eric Keys was charged with one count of possession of marijuana while Derrell Keys was charged with several outstanding warrants.
In connection with their arrests, both men were booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center.
According to police, the suspects had their initial court appearance in Laurel Municipal Court this week and were later released on bond.
In a separate incident on the same day, LPD Narcotics Agent Michael Tolbert reported that two people were taken into custody following the execution of a search warrant at a residence located at 742 E. 16th Street in connection with possession of cocaine charges.
However, Tolbert said, police are continuing to investigate the incident at the 742 address and no other details were available at this time.
Bullock said the public has been helpful in these drug cases.
“We had been getting a lot of calls concerning these houses,” Bullock said. “People have informed us of the amount of traffic coming in and out.
“Based on information from neighbors and other citizens we were able to get search warrants signed,” Bullock added. “We are always thankful for the public’s help in identifying potential crime activity.”
Police said they encourage people to call and provide law enforcement officials with information.
Anyone with information about these or other cases can contact the Laurel Police Department at 601-425-4711 or Crimestoppers at 601-428-STOP.
