A one vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 59 North near mile marker 84 Thursday evening left two male JCJC students slightly injured and thankful to be alive.
The accident was reported to 911 dispatchers at the Jones County Emergency Operations Center at 6:16 p.m. Units from the Ellisville Fire Department, Ellisville Police Department, South Jones Volunteer Fire & Rescue, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Office and Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
The vehicle, a GMC Canyon pickup truck, was traveling northbound on I-59 when it left the roadway, traveled into the median and struck a concrete culvert causing the truck to flip several times. One of the victims had to be placed on a backboard and stretcher for transport to South Central Regional Medical Center. The other victim was able to walk away from the accident and ride to the hospital in the ambulance with his companion.
Traffic on I-59 southbound was limited to one lane for nearly an hour as rescue, accident investigation and vehicle recovery operations were conducted.
