It looked a lot like Christmas Saturday at the Sanderson Farms headquarters on Flynt Road in Laurel.
Santa Claus was there surrounded by beautifully decorated packages, a Christmas tree, lights, and of course — children of all ages.
The atmosphere was perfect for the Sanderson Farms Annual Relay For Life fundraising event called “Photos With Santa.” All proceeds from the event go to the American Cancer Society.
Children of all ages received the opportunity to meet Santa Claus and share their wants and desires for the upcoming holiday.
“This is our third year hosting this event,” said Lana Taylor, Sanderson Farms Relay For Life Team Captain. “We have had a great response each year we have done it.
“We are expecting a great turn out this year, too.”
Taylor noted that children aren’t the only ones who pay Santa a visit. A number of adults came, sat on Santa’s lap and made their requests known, too, she said.
“It’s a whole lot of fun for us all,” she said. “We’ve had a large number of volunteers.”
Last year “Photos With Santa” netted the relay team about $1,100. Taylor, a 28-year cancer survivor, hopes to raise even more this year.
“I understand the meaning of cancer, just like I understand the true meaning of Christmas,” said Taylor. “We host this event to help raise money for the American Cancer Society that is working hard to find a cure for this disease.
“We also want to help make people more aware of cancer,” Taylor added. “I’m thankful for Sanderson Farms and all they have done in supporting our efforts.
“I’m also thankful for the community support. We couldn’t do any of this without their help.”
