SANDERSVILLE – Employees with a sub-contractor for Norfolk Southern Corporation is making railroad track crossing improvements in Sandersville this week.
Workers with Tubbys Construction Company of Lancing, Tenn., worked at the two railroad crossings in Sandersville Thursday in an effort to make travel over those crossings smoother.
Lee Walker, foreman for the crew working at the site, said Tubbys Construction is a sub-contractor for Norfolk Southern.
Walker said the crew is “replacing the cross-ties under the track here.”
According to Walker, the work on this portion of the track – from Sandersville to Heidelberg – has been estimated to take about two weeks.
“We are doing all the crossings here in Sandersville and we will go up the track to crossings in Heidelberg,” Walker explained. “We have been working here this week, and expect to complete this job by the end of next week.”
Calls to media representatives for Norfolk Southern seeking comment were not returned by press time.
However, according to the Norfolk Southern Corporation’s website, Norfolk Southern is one of the nation’s premier transportation companies.
“Norfolk Southern Railway subsidiary operates approximately 21,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, serves every major container port in the eastern United States, and provides superior connections to western rail carriers,” the website states. “Norfolk Southern operates the most extensive intermodal network in the East and is North America’s largest rail carrier of metals and automotive products.”
