LAUREL —
A Laurel man is being sought in connection with an altercation and a shooting incident in Laurel Wednesday night.
The incident resulted in one person being taken to a local hospital for a gunshot wound.
Sgt. Jim Thornhill with the Laurel Police Department said 20-year-old Kenneth Lee Dean is being sought by authorities in connection with the Wednesday evening incident.
Thornhill said the incident occurred around 8:27 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of Roberts Street.
According to reports, the victim was shot when Dean and another male became involved in an altercation.
Thornhill said police began looking for Dean as a person of interest in the shooting.
Thornhill said police are continuing to investigate the incident to determine a motive for the altercation and the shooting.
According to police, the victim nor the alleged shooter lived on Roberts Street.
“Neither lived in the area,” he said. “Reportedly, it started out as an argument that led to a fight. Then there were shots fired.”
Thornhill said police have determined that several shots were fired and that more than one of the bullets hit the victim.
“Based on the witnesses, about five to six shots were fired,” the police sergeant explained. “The victim was shot more than once.”
According to police, the unidentified male victim from the shooting was taken from the scene to South Central Regional Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds.
Thornhill said the injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Police reported that the victim was listed in good condition at the hospital on Thursday.
“What we need now is the public’s help,” Thornhill said. “We need anyone with information concerning this altercation to notify us.”
