Laurel —
Soso Police Chief Randall Beech said a two car accident at Highway 28 and Highway 533 Tuesday afternoon is evidence of a widespread problem the town is facing.
The incident, which involved a Pontiac Grand Prix and a Cadillac, was minor, but Beech said it could have been much worse.
“There were only minor injuries and both drivers were checked out on scene by EMServ Ambulance Service,” Beech said, noting the accident was one of many at the same intersection.
“MHP (Mississippi Highway Patrol) patrols up and down Highway 28 which helps some, but I’ve contacted DOT (the Mississippi Department of Transportation) about putting up some flashing signs out here,” he said.
Beech said he has been told that there have not been enough accidents on Highway 28 to justify flashing signs being used.
“I guess people have to die to get any help,” he said.
In addition to Beech and EMServ, units from the Soso and Calhoun Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene.
