Jones County Investigators arrested two suspects Thursday for credit card fraud.
According to Sheriff Alex Hodge, an investigation into reports of credit card fraud landed two employees of Taco Bell of Laurel behind bars yesterday evening.
Hodge identified the suspects as Julia Caldwell, 32, of the 1100 block of Brown Street in Laurel and Jacqueline Colbert, 19, of Windsor Court Apartments; both Taco Bell of Laurel employees at the time of the arrest. They were each charged for allegedly stealing credit card information from customers and using the information to purchase personal items and paying utility bills.
Both were booked in the Jones County Adult Detention Center without incident, charged with credit card fraud.
Investigator Carla McMahan said credit card fraud is a daily occurrence all across America.
“Anyone who chooses to use a person’s credit card information without authorization should be aware that the unauthorized use of anyone’s credit card information to obtain money or property is indeed a crime,” said McMahan. “Credit card holders should always pay special attention to their billing statements and follow up with creditors if their bills do not arrive in a timely manner.
Hodge noted this is an ongoing investigation and there may be more charges forthcoming.
