Many children in the care of Mississippi Children’s Home Services have been abused or neglected, with some even removed from their home and put in the custody of the Department of Human Services. Some have behavioral issues for which they need special treatment and therapy in order to re-enter a normal home or school setting.
Established in 1912, Mississippi Children’s Home Services served over 10,000 individuals statewide in 2007 alone. Through its affiliates, Mississippi Children’s Home Society and CARES Center, Inc., the agency offers an array of programs including adoption; psychiatric residential treatment; therapeutic group homes; foster care; children's shelters; special education; home-based services; peer prevention education and family preservation services.
