Deputies make arrest in fireworks break-in

Deputies and police arrested a Taylorsville man Monday in connection with an attempted break-in of a fireworks stand on Parker Drive north of Laurel. Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge identified the man as Terry McCullum, 25, of the 500 block of Highway 529, Taylorsville.

According to Hodge, a Laurel police officer saw three males prying on the door in the rear of the fireworks stand Monday around 11 p.m. All three ran from the scene when police arrived, but McCullum was later apprehended.

He is charged with attempted burglary. He is being held in the Jones County Adult Detention Center on a revoked, May 21 bond, due to a previous felony charge of embezzlement.

‘Most Wanted’ turns himself in

A Laurel man on the sheriff’s department “Most Wanted” list turned himself in on Tuesday, according to Hodge. James Ducksworth, 52, was wanted on a charge of embezzlement. Hodge said Ducksworth turned himself in shortly before noon after seeing his name listed in the Laurel Leader-Call as one of the county’s “Most Wanted.”

Another arrest in burglary case

A Jones County man faces charges of conspiracy to commit burglary just days after Jones County Deputies arrested and charged David Gibson with the burglary of Convenience Corner on Highway 15 North.

Joseph McMillan, 18, was arrested in connection with the burglary that took place on June 30.

“McMillan admitted that he conspired to burglarize the Convenience Corner to steal cigarettes,” said Hodge.

He is being held in the Jones County Adult Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
