A 2009 Relay for Life Gold Team recipient, Ellisville State School has kicked off its efforts for the 2010 event.
Paige McCardle, ACS senior community representative, said Ellisville State School’s Gold Team award means the company raised more than $7,500 last year. This year, ESS added a payroll deduction option for employees to donate funds to Relay for Life.
“They are only the second Relay for Life team in Jones County to do that, the other being Wayne Farms,” said McCardle, who recently attended a team meeting at ESS. “Especially this year, we encourage teams to have team meetings so the team captains can bring back information they receive at captain meetings.”
Daphne Creel, ESS public relations, said Ellisville State School has raised approximately $10,000 per year since it began participating in Relay for Life four years ago.
“Since 2007, Ellisville State School’s Relay For Life team has become one of the top fundraisers in the community,” she said. “The commitment of our dedicated volunteers have seen a consistent growth each year as new members sign-up, and word continues to spread among individuals and staff who are eager to make a difference in the lives of countless Americans affected by cancer.”
