BAY SPRINGS —
The Jasper County Board of Supervisors during a special meeting this week rejected all bids concerning a bridge in the Beaver Meadow Community.
The board set this week’s meeting to consider bids for the bridge project in District Five.
Vice President Curtis Gray, who represents District Five on the Board of Supervisors, said the project is needed to improve traveling conditions in his area.
He said the bridge is currently posted and closed to one lane of traffic.
Officials said the replacement of the bridge will be paid for through a grant the county is receiving.
However, because of the amounts of the bids received, the supervisors voted to reject all bids on project #LSBP31 (12) CR (County Road) 1133.
Officials said because of the need, they would readvertise for the project and hopefully get better bids.
Also during the meeting, Haskins Montgomery, who is the executive director of the Jasper County Economic Development District, met with supervisors to discuss the need for a rail spur for economic development.
Following some discussion, the supervisors agreed to accept a bid from Trac-Work, Inc. to build a rail spur for Jones Lumber Company.
The board of supervisors also discussed some travel items and approved expenses for the county attorney to attend a meeting in Fort Collins, Co. this month with funds to come from the Economic Development District Fund.
