LAUREL —
A Jones County man remains behind bars today after being arrested for aggravated domestic assault and kidnapping.
According to Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge, deputies were dispatched to a call concerning an aggravated assault and, after further investigation, it was determined that 23-year-old Jairon Fuentes of Ellisville kidnapped and seriously assaulted a minor female victim Friday, August 27, around 3 p.m. and fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Sgt. Brian Davison with the Investigative Department added, “Deputies made contact with the red Chevrolet Avalanche being driven by Fuentes at Mile Marker 88 on Interstate 59 and noticed that the vehicle swerved off the side of the roadway. Shortly thereafter, deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but Fuentes continued fleeing southbound on Interstate 59 to Forrest County without yielding.
Forrest County law enforcement officials were contacted regarding the pursuit and upon arriving at mile marker 69, Forrest County Deputies began deploying stop sticks which caused one of the front tires on the vehicle to deflate. Hattiesburg Police Department also assisted by deploying stop sticks. The suspect exited the Interstate and went southbound on Highway 49 where the vehicle came to a complete stop.
Jarion Fuentes was immediately apprehended and taken into custody by Jones County Deputy James Atkins and the passenger was transported to Forrest General Hospital and later flown to the University Medical Center in Jackson, due to the severity of her injuries.
Hodge added, “Fuentes was out on felony bond for narcotics at the time of his arrest, but he will remain in the Jones County Jail until his court date.”
