GloryFest considered a success
Dozens of people gathered at Mason Park Saturday for GloryFest ‘09, Laurel’s new praise and worship festival.
Sponsored by CenterTree, a local contemporary Christian band, GloryFest began a year ago as SummerFest. The group decided to moved the event to a later date, which obviously would necessitate a name change.
Since it’s a time of “glorifying God” and it’s on a fall night, lead singer Kevin Price said the event was dubbed “GloryFest.”
“It will be an ongoing thing,” said Price. “We plan to do it every September and we hope it gets bigger and better.”
Ben Barr, a member of the group, added that he hopes GloryFest becomes as big as “Praise in the Park” that’s held in Lucedale and Atlanta Fest. “We just want to have a local festival and sing and do activities that are centered around God,” he said. “GloryFest is a good excuse for people to gather together and praise and worship God.”
In addition CenterTree, other performers were Christian rapper Yung Jon, a native of Laurel, and praise leader Kristie Reddoch. Chad Landrum was the guest speaker.
The event also included food, games and other activities.
