To the Citizens of Jones County:
The Committee to Light Mason Park has been hard at work since October to illuminate the park for this Christmas season. Our main purpose is to celebrate Christ’s nativity and the Santa Claus tradition with something of beauty for residents and visitors to enjoy, and to spread good cheer during the holidays.
The work is done primarily by volunteers, and we are very grateful to everyone who helped this season. The Knights of Columbus from Immaculate Conception Church spent hours decorating the “Red Tree” on 18th Street in memory of Curtis Allen and in honor of Eva Ann Allen, and we especially thank them for doing an exceptional job.
The park will be lit from 5-10 p.m. every night until Jan. 2. We will need volunteers to help take the decorations down, starting on Saturday, Jan. 9, weather permitting. If you would like to help, please call Barbara Tillery at 601-438-9006. We welcome groups and people of all ages for take-down.
We have experienced more vandalism this year already than in several years. We ask all citizens who are visiting the park, or even driving by, to report any suspicious activity or obvious damage to the police. We would appreciate any help from our “citizens’ patrol.”
If you wish to make a tax deductible contribution to support our efforts, checks should be made out to “Committee to Light Mason Park” and mailed to P. O. Box 2053, Laurel MS 39442.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
