LAUREL —
The Laurel Walgreens has donated nearly $400 to the Better Boys and Girls Learning Center.
Daphne Kirkland, store manager for Walgreens, said the store hosted a fundraiser earlier this month with Dickey’s Barbecue Pit selling sausage dogs and sandwiches. The proceeds from the event were donated to the Better Boys and Girls Learning Center during a brief check presentation at the store Friday.
“Walgreens is taking a more proactive approach to doing community events,” said Kirkland, who is community leader for the Hattiesburg area. “We’re always looking for things to do to benefit the community.”
Lorraine Rogers, vice president of the Better Boys and Girls Learning Center, said the organization appreciates the efforts of Walgreens.
“We really did need the funds,” she said. “Our funding is limited. We’re pleased that they did something in support of us We’re very appreciative. We hope they keep us in mind for future events.”
The Better Boys and Girls Learning Center is seeking donations for the rest of the 2010-2011 budget year.
Those wishing to donate can contact Lorraine Rogers at the Better Boys and Girls Learning Center at 601-428-1177, or mail donations to P.O. Box 6751, Laurel, Miss., 39441. The center is located at 511 Central Avenue in downtown Laurel.

Are you prepared to share the Gospel?
Dear friends, we are now two weeks into the year 2011. Hopefully, our many optimistic thoughts surrounding this New Year are still very bright! Yes, we still have time to straighten out what we made crooked last year — by following through with the commitments we miscarried then. So, this is still the time of year to renew our resolve to recover and maintain our spiritual, domestic, vocational, and civil priorities.
