Springtime brings the blooming of flowers, warmer weather and, as seen over the weekend, the occasional severe weather outbreak.
But if you are a teenager, who cares about any of that stuff? It is prom season. Time to stress out about finding a date at the last minute, get dressed to the nines, get your picture taken at leadout and leave shortly afterward because you are too cool to hang around a school function.
Casey Stewart, a senior at Heidelberg Academy and a resident on Short Seventh Avenue in Laurel, participated in what could be his last prom on Thursday night. His prom ceremonies took place at The Courtyards in downtown Laurel.
“I’m not going to miss having to pay for it, a tux cost $150 to rent, but it’s an experience I’ll never forget,” Stewart said.
According to Stewart, the evening began in style with a ride in a white, stretch limousine for his companions and him to Hattiesburg for dinner at a hibachi grill. After returning to Laurel and spending a few minutes waiting for the girls to make some last minute primping, they walked the red carpet to enter the prom for some dancing and fun.
After going home and shedding his uncomfortable tuxedo, Stewart and his friends capped the evening with a late-night trip to Huddle House. The prom marked one of Stewart’s last high school activities before his May 7 graduation.
“I’m going into the Air Force soon after graduation and in the next year, I’ll probably end up at William Carey to get a degree in nursing,” Stewart said.
