Chris Tomlin to be in Hattiesburg Oct. 6

LAUREL — Christian worship leader Chris Tomlin will perform in the Hub City this fall as part of his “Hello Love” tour.

Tomlin will be at the Forrest County Multipurpose Center in Hattiesburg on Oct. 6 along with opener Kristian Stanfill. Tickets for the event went on sale on July 16 at premierproductions.com.

Tomlin, who released his first album in 2001, has scored eight number one hits on Christian radio, with his latest being “Our God.” His latest album, “Hello Love” was released in 2008 on sixstepsrecords/Sparrow Records.

Tomlin has won several awards at the annual GMA Music (Dove) awards including male vocalist of the year, artist of the year and song and worship song of the year. Tomlin is also a Grammy nominated artist.

In an interview for the release of “Hello Love,” Tomlin said the album is the culmination of his direct calling of creating songs for the church.

“I feel a responsibility to use that talent, because God’s given me a gift to connect people with God,” Tomlin said. “So I try to write songs with those people in mind. I try to open worship up to everything it can be, not just my personal preference, but what can it be for a person sitting in an office, or a mom driving her kids to school, or a teenager in high school? How can I bridge all those generations and try to grab something that can help them worship and communicate with God?”

A majority of the songs on “Hello Love” revolve around stories and even simple words. For example, the album’s debut single came from Tomlin’s desire to focus a worship song around a specific word.

“I’m really excited about ‘Jesus Messiah’, because Messiah is a word that I’ve been trying to figure out how to put in a song for a while,” he said. “It’s such an amazing word for who Jesus is, and you hardly ever sing that word. But it really pronounces that he’s not just an historical figure, but he is the Son of God, the sent Savior.”

Dear friends, we are now two weeks into the year 2011. Hopefully, our many optimistic thoughts surrounding this New Year are still very bright! Yes, we still have time to straighten out what we made crooked last year — by following through with the commitments we miscarried then. So, this is still the time of year to renew our resolve to recover and maintain our spiritual, domestic, vocational, and civil priorities.
