This 2001 Honda Civic burst into flames around midnight Monday on Highway 84 East. Fortunately the driver was able to escape injury. Powers Volunteer Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the call and responded with Engine 1 and Tanker 1. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the burning vehicle which sustained extreme fire damage to the engine and passenger compartments. The driver advised that what he thought to be transmission fluid began spraying from under the hood onto the windshield and as he slowed to pull over the car burst into flames. Units from the Laurel Police Department were the first on the scene as the burning vehicle was visible from the city limits of Laurel. Trooper David Smith of the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the incident as well.
