First baseman Mitch Moreland left Game 2 of the Sox's American League Division Series contest against the New York Yankees after tweaking his hamstring rounding third base. After the 6-2 loss in Game 2, Price now has an 0-9 record with a 6.03 ERA in 10 career postseason starts.
NY is built for Yankee Stadium, where it takes advantage of the short right-field porch and hit 144 of its record 267 home runs.
They've gotten production from various sources through two games, but the hitting wasn't consistent enough Saturday to really challenge the Yankees.
"We can't wait. We know our fans are waiting for us to get back home", Judge said.
While Sanchez had a awful regular season - plagued by an injured groin, ineffectiveness at the plate and continued questions about whether he was a good enough defender to be an everyday catcher - Boston didn't take him lightly heading into this series.
So who wins every playoff game? He threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings against them on July 1 and allowed one run in seven innings when he last faced them on September 19. Sanchez's second homer was in same direction but sailed clean out of the park, onto Lansdowne Street. A few feet away, a plaque commemorates the six home runs in the 106-year history of Fenway Park that have cleared the back wall to the other side of the flagpole.
"I didn't see any red flags as far as, man, the velocity's down or just something that leaped off the screen to me anyway that suggested that he couldn't right the ship", Boone said. "But a homer is a homer".
"I know the (Red Sox-Yankees) rivalry and everything".
Sanchez also had a solo shot in the second inning to give NY a 2-0 lead.
There's plenty of baseball left, and the Red Sox have a potent lineup capable of coming back.
The 2012 AL Cy Young Award victor - and two-time runner up for the award - Price signed a seven-year, $217 million deal to come to Boston as a free agent before the 2016 season and has pitched like an ace in the regular season.
"It's tough", the Red Sox starter said, via MB.com. Many pointed out that Red Sox manager Alex Cora saw Astros skipper A.J. Hinch use starters out of the bullpen to his advantage on the way to a World Series win last year and copied it with Boston this year.
As poor as Price has been as a starter in the postseason, he's had a 2.25 ERA in 15 innings out of relief. "I think it's just feeling like I'm at home".
Still, there's the question: Can the Red Sox win the World Series if Price doesn't pitch well? "The last couple outings, I came back and doing a better job".
The Red Sox managed just five hits with a Xander Bogaerts solo homer in the fourth the only swat of significance. "We'll know a little bit more after all his rounds of whatever, steam and all that stuff he goes on, and then we'll talk to (team trainer Brad Pearson) and go from there". Joe Kelly, Ryan Brasier, Brandon Workman and Rodriguez combined to throw 4 ⅓ scoreless innings before the Sanchez homer.
While manager Aaron Boone hasn't been afraid to deploy his bullpen early in postseason games, he said he's open to Severino pitching for however long he is effective. But, against the Yankees and on the postseason stage, Price's mental toughness is what got him yanked more than his physical ability and talent. He just kept stepping out.
