John Terry calls it quits

The likes of Thierry Henry and former Villa defender John Terry have been strongly linked with succeeding Bruce, but a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Rodgers has admirers within the Villa boardroom and they regard him as the "favoured candidate".

Terry, who announced his retirement from football over the weekend, is being lined up as an assistant manager if Henry takes the reins at Villa Park. "As a 14-year-old, I made my best and biggest decision: to sign for Chelsea Football Club".

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has insisted that Thierry Henry has always had the tools to become a great manager, amidst reports of him being close to becoming the next Aston Villa boss.

Which team are you supporting in the 2018 World Cup?

However, Faria could now be on the cusp of landing a senior managerial position of his own at Aston Villa, with the 43-year-old currently the second favourite in the betting behind Terry.

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton, who played for Villa in 2006-07 before injury ended his professional career, believes Terry has the attributes to succeed. From then until his departure from the club in 2017, he won five Premier League titles, had five FA Cup triumphs and claimed the League Cup three times.

"What a player, what a leader, what a career". I hope I have done you all proud wearing the shirt and the armband.

Aston Villa failed to regain promotion to the Premier League after suffering defeat to Fulham in the play-off final and Terry ended his union with the club after his 1-year contract expired.

He was recently on the verge of a move to Spartak Moscow and had a medical before changing his mind after saying it was not right for his family.

Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, has always spoken high of John Terry having played nearly 10 seasons alongside the veteran. I look forward to the next chapter in my life and the challenges in my head.
