HS linebacker seriously injured in football game Friday night

A Georgia high school football player died Sunday evening after sustaining a severe brain injury from a game Friday night, Atlanta's FOX 5 reported. According to his uncle, it wasn't until then that Thomas's arm and leg went numb and Thomas collapsed on the field.

They said that about a third of Pike County High School students did not attend school Monday.

Thomas, who was a junior linebacker, was injured during his team's game against Peach County High School.

Thomas was then rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he underwent two surgeries to reduce brain swelling. Dylan was "the one that was the golden child in the family and really brought the family together".

Another post on the page Monday morning stated that the school was taking donations to send to Thomas' family.

Players, coaches and supporters from both teams gathered on the field in prayer as Thomas was taken from the field before play resumed.

A fundraiser for medical costs and lost income started by Burgess had raised more than $30,000 by Monday morning.

A vigil for Thomas was held Sunday afternoon at the school's football field, where hundreds showed up in support.

On Saturday, family members said there was not much they could do but pray, and they asked the community for prayers as well.
