Each professional footballer is asked to pick their top eleven footballers on the planet (in a 4-3-3 formation) and FIFPro (the professional players union) collates these fantasy teams and whittles down to the top selections. Some 25,000 professional footballers from all over the world choose the world's best 11, selecting one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three attackers.
The shortlisted players will then be battling for a place in the "World 11", which will be announced at the Best FIFA Football Awards later this month.
The final lineup will be revealed in London on September 24.
Real Madrid dominate the list with 11 of their current squad featured after last season's historic Champions League victory. United quartet David De Gea, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku feature, as do Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk. He has already won 9 World XI awards, including in 2017.
Bonucci's Juve team-mate Giorgio Chiellini is among the nominated defenders, along with Stuttgart's World Cup-winning full-back Benjamin Pavard, Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos and Liverpool's Dejan Lovren.
De Gea is joined by Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Buffon, Real Madrid duo Thibaut Courtois and Keylor Navas as well as Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The shortlist for goalkeepers and defenders for the FIFPro World XI has been released, and it features Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.
