The two met face-to-face for the first time before the two teams faced off in their preseason game on Thursday night and according to Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer, the meeting didn't go so well.
Last week, Bills wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin blamed his struggles with the Carolina Panthers on not being able to play with an "accurate" quarterback "with knowledge." While Newton seemed initially friendly during the meeting, neither man was smiling as Benjamin started to walk away from him.
After Benjamin's comments were published, McDermott expressed disapproval, saying Sunday (via ESPN), "There's a time and a place - I'm not saying specific to what comments were made - there's a time and place for things like that".
Remember. the Bills wideout blasted Cam in the media this week - essentially blaming Newton for all of his struggles in Carolina the past few years. "Looking back on it, I should've just been drafted by somebody else", Benjamin recently told The Athletic's Tim Graham. "I wasn't even trying to listen".
Newton later waved off Benjamin in apparent frustration before the two parted ways for the remainder of warmups. Benjamin answered questions about the exchange by saying he was "moving on", although when asked what Newton said to him, Benjamin responded, "I don't know".
Benjamin was traded last season to Buffalo after his production declined in the aftermath of an ACL injury.
