Toronto Raptors "In The Driver's Seat" For Kawhi Leonard

As right now, it appears that the Toronto Raptors are the ones who are making progress with regards to a possible acquisition of Leonard via a trade.

The Spurs have not granted prospective trade partners the opportunity to speak directly with Leonard or his representatives, according to ESPN.

The Portland Trail Blazers are among several teams that have talked to the San Antonio Spurs about trading for star forward Kawhi Leonard.

On today's Lowe Post, though, Lowe and Windhorst got a little more specific in talking about the Leonard market and the Raptors in particular. Leonard was one of 35 players invited to participate in the camp, which will be led by Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. While DeRozan has three years remaining on his current contract, Leonard is slated to become a free agent following the 2018-19 campaign.

The USA basketball mini-camp will run from July 25-27.

He reportedly had a tense relationship with the team throughout his rehab process and has demanded a trade out of San Antonio.

"I think (the Raptors are) in the driver's seat for Kawhi because I think the Lakers have given up, the Sixers have given up", Windhorst said.

That number is likely larger, but it's nonetheless notable for a sluggishly-moving situation for the Spurs, who have not received impressive-enough offers for their swingman with one year left on his contract and a reported expectation he would like to join the Los Angeles Lakers. Boston hasn't included five players, including Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and Al Horford. "San Antonio has been determined in demanding a sizable return on Leonard".

ESPN reports that the Spurs want an All-Star caliber player, high-potential young players and draft assets in any Leonard deal.
