The Shenmue 1 & 2 remaster release date has been confirmed

For the first time in over a decade you'll be able to play Shenmue on a modern format, as a release date for the remasters is revealed. However, the more interesting aspect of this store page is that the product has a release date listed on August 21, 2018. The re-release will stay true to the originals with modernized features including fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers.

Speaking on his official blog, Xbox Programming Director Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb has announced that pre-orders are open on the remaster of the classic Dreamcast RPGs, Shenmue and Shenmue II.

That listing on the Microsoft store stated that the two games (which appear to be relatively simple ports of the original releases) will be available from Tuesday, August 21 in Europe (August 20 in America).

In the announcement, the company goes on to call this release the "definitive version" and the "best Shenmue experience to date".

Shenmue 1 & 2 arrives in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

We'll have to wait and see how Yu Suzuki's Shenmue III - backed to the tune of $6 million - will end his epic revenge saga.
