World Cup match report France v Peru 21 June 2018

Peru have now attempted 27 shots without scoring at the 2018 World Cup finals; only Morocco (28) have had more without a goal.

France managed to hold to their slim advantage as Peru lacked quality in finishing.

Let's look at the France vs. Peru betting lines.

"I've always said that the World Cup is a dream for any player", said Mbappe, who was born a few months after France won the 1998 title. That will translate into France winning, probably in a less convincing manner than their fans want.

The game at Ekaterinburg Arena, Ekaterinburg starts at 8 p.m. local time, or 11 a.m. ET. Bet on the over. Team Australia comes in third with one point.

Antoine Griezmann drove straight at goalkeeper Pedro Gallese after Olivier Giroud - starting in place of Ousmane Dembele - set up the Atletico Madrid forward. Pogba beat his defender and found Giroud with a flawless pass. Giroud then chipped it for Mbappe to easily tap it past goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.

Deschamps, therefore, perhaps sees Peru's left-flank as a safer area to attack with Mbappe on the right wing and possibly Djibril Sidibe coming in at right-back, without the threat of having players caught out of position.

Peru employed further pressure on the French team but the latter showed its resolve and composure, especially in its own box.Long-range drives from Andre Carrillo and Luis Advincula went over the cross-bar as a desperate Peru continue to hunt for their equaliser.

"I don't think France like to play against South American teams", said Peru full-back Miguel Trauco.

It ended plucky Peru's chances of qualifying but they anxious France with Paolo Guerrero denied by Hugo Lloris and Pedro Aquino hitting the post.

Didier Deschamps' side finished the first half strongly and could have extended their lead, but a clear chance fell to the wrong man as Gallese saved from left-back Theo Hernandez after a fluid France move from right to left.

Peru started at a fierce pace and nearly made a spectacular breakthrough after six minutes when Yoshimar Yotun saw France keeper Hugo Lloris off his line and his lob from around 50 yards dropped onto the top of the net.

- Kylian Mbappe has been directly involved in eight goals in his last nine games for France (4 goals, 4 assists).

However, alongside Kante in France's second match against Peru, he was simply brilliant.

Whatever happens in this tournament, Peru will win plenty of plaudits, but they need to be a little more streetwise to win points.

Yet again Les Bleus failed to live up to their status as one of the tournament favourites, but they are now two wins from two and guaranteed to go through to the last 16.

France have never lost a World Cup game when leading at half-time but Aquino almost pegged them back five minutes after the break.
